
Dr. Velma H. Williams is a distinguished educator, community leader, and longtime Sanford City Commissioner whose life’s work has centered on service, equity, and empowerment. A retired Seminole State College educator, she served 21 years on the Sanford City Commission, championing infrastructure improvements, safer neighborhoods, and expanded services for historically underserved communities.
A visionary for youth development, Dr. Williams founded the Goldsboro Front Porch Council and has personally exposed more than 2,500 students to government, leadership, and higher education through trips to Tallahassee and Florida A&M University. Her commitment to community uplift led to two facilities being named in her honor, including the Dr. Velma H. Williams Westside Community Center.
She currently chairs the City of Sanford’s Race, Equality, Equity and Inclusion Advisory Committee and continues to mentor young people, embodying her lifelong belief: “I am my brother’s keeper.” Dr. Williams is married to retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Edgar Williams and is the proud mother and grandmother of a family rooted in FAMU tradition and service.

Dr. Anderson is the president of Sistas, a community‑driven organization dedicated to uplifting, uniting, and empowering women from every walk of life. Guided by a deep commitment to confidence, leadership, and resilience, Dr. Anderson created Sistas as a safe, inclusive space where women can grow, learn, and lead with purpose.
Under Dr. Anderson’s leadership, Sistas champions four core pillars, Education & Skill Development, Leadership & Advocacy, Community Support, and Economic Empowerment. Ensuring that women have the tools, knowledge, and networks needed in order to thrive. Dr. Anderson’s passion for increasing women’s political presence, expanding educational opportunities, and strengthening families fuels every initiative she leads.
With a heart for service and a bold vision for change, Dr. Anderson empowers women to stop shrinking themselves for the comfort of others. Her work continues to build stronger communities, amplify women’s voices, and create pathways for generational impact.
